Chisato Matsui (松井 知里, Matsui Chisato) is a minor character in Battle Royale.
Backstory[]
Not much is known about Chisato's background other than she was a good cook and that she was on the cheer team.
Friends and Enemies[]
Chisato was friends with Yukie Utsumi, Satomi Noda, Haruka Tanizawa, Yuko Sakaki, and Yuka Nakagawa. If Chisato was anything like her novel and manga counterparts, then she would've had a crush on Shinji Mimura.
Before the Program[]
Before Kitano resigned, Class B decided to take a day off and skip school, Chisato included; she attended the basketball game against Class A, and celebrated when Class B won. Chisato decided to go on the class trip; while on the bus, she most likely played patty-cake with her friends. Chisato fell asleep after breathing in a sleeping gas pumped into the bus; she was then transported to an island and fitted with an explosive collar.
Chisato, along with the rest of the class, woke up in a classroom in the island’s school. Unnerved by the presence of Shogo Kawada and Kazuo Kiriyama, Chisato rushed over to the window to watch a helicopter land in front of the school. Chisato was shocked to see that Kitano had returned. When Kitano asked the class if they knew the BR Act law, Chisato kept quiet, obviously knowing the law, but afraid to say it aloud. Chisato was horrified upon seeing Masao Hayashida's corpse. When Fumiyo Fujiyoshi was killed, Chisato panicked and ran for the door trying to escape before running towards the back of the classroom when the soldiers began firing. When Yoshitoki Kuninobu's collar got activated, Chisato ran around the room trying to evade him.
When Chisato's name was called, she grabbed her school bag and ran towards the front of the room; she caught her supply bag and ran out of the school.
During the Program[]
Chisato, dead, after being shot several times by Satomi.
Chisato was one of the girls who teamed up with Yukie, and her friends at the lighthouse. She, along with Haruka, cooked the meals. When Yuka was poisoned, Chisato was the first to get blamed by Satomi, due to her preparing the meals. Chisato defends herself and pins the blame on Haruka for having helped, making Haruka scream out in denial. While Haruka and Satomi argue, Chisato throws the sauce pan across the table in anger at Yukie, accusing her of poisoning Yuka and trying to kill the others to run off with Shuya Nanahara. Chisato rushes for her gun but Satomi fires at Chisato, killing her.
Etymology[]
- The name Chisato means "knowledge" (知) (chi) and "village" (里) (sato).
- Chisato's surname Matsui means "pine tree, fir tree" (松) (matsu) and "well, mine shaft, pit" (井) (i).

- Chisato is the first girl killed by Satomi Noda.
- Chisato is one of two students that are skilled in cooking. The other one is Shogo Kawada, who mentioned that he know how to cook as his dad was a chef.
