For the novel, please go to Sho Tsukioka (Novel). For the manga, please go to Sho Tsukioka (Manga).

Sho Tsukioka (月岡 彰, Tsukioka Shō) is a minor character in Battle Royale.

Backstory[]

Not much is known about Sho's past other than that he was on the basketball team. If Sho was gay like his novel and manga counterparts, he didn't make it obvious.

Friends and Enemies[]

Sho was friends with Hiroshi Kuronaga, Ryuhei Sasagawa, Mitsuru Numai and Izumi Kanai. It is unknown who his enemies were. He may have been friendly with Shuya Nanahara, Hiroki Sugimura, and Shinji Mimura since they were basketball teammates.

Before the Program[]

Before Kitano resigned, Class B decided to take a day off and skip school, Sho included; he participated in the basketball game against Class A, which Class B won. Sho decided to go on the class trip; while on the bus, he fooled around with his friends. Sho fell asleep after breathing in a sleeping gas pumped into the bus; he was then transported to an island and fitted with an explosive collar.

Sho, along with the rest of the class, woke up in a classroom in the island’s school. Unnerved by the presence of Shogo Kawada and Kazuo Kiriyama, Sho rushed over to the window to watch a helicopter land in front of the school. Sho was shocked to see that Kitano had returned. When Kitano asked the class if they knew the BR Act law, Sho kept quiet, obviously knowing the law, but afraid to say it aloud. Sho was horrified upon seeing Masao Hayashida's corpse. When Fumiyo Fujiyoshi was killed, Sho panicked and ran for the door trying to escape before running towards the back of the classroom when the soldiers began firing. When Yoshitoki Kuninobu's collar got activated, Sho ran around the room trying to evade him.

When Sho's name was called, he grabbed his school bag and ran towards the front of the room; he caught his supply bag and ran out of the school.

During the Program[]

NumaisGangDead

Sho (at the left beside Izumi) dead after being shot by Kazuo.

Sho, along with Mitsuru, Hiroshi, Ryuhei, and Izumi confront Kazuo and accuse him of being a spy for Kitano, with Sho swinging his nunchucks threateningly. Kazuo distracted Ryuhei by spitting his gum at him, taking his Uzi and shooting all of them down. Kazuo picks up his nunchucks, but discards them.

Etymology[]

  • The name Sho means "patent, clear" (彰)
  • Sho's surname Tsukioka means "moon" (月) (tsuki), and "hill, ridge" (岡) (oka)

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the novel and manga, Sho's sexuality is never revealed.
  • This is the only version of Sho whose collar wasn't detonated.
