Tadakatsu Hatagami (旗上 忠勝, Hatagami Tadakatsu) is a minor character in Battle Royale.
Backstory[]
Nothing about Tadakatsu's personality was known. If Tadakatsu was anything like his novel and manga counterparts, then he would've been on the baseball team.
Friends and Enemies[]
Tadakatsu's only known friend was Yuichiro Takiguchi. He may have had a crush on Mitsuko Souma.
Before the Program[]
Before Kitano resigned, Class B decided to take a day off and skip school, Tadakatsu included; he attended the basketball game against Class A, and celebrated when Class B won. Tadakatsu decided to go on the class trip; while on the bus, he most likely chatted with Yuichiro. Tadakatsu fell asleep after breathing in a sleeping gas pumped into the bus; he was then transported to an island and fitted with an explosive collar.
Tadakatsu, along with the rest of the class, woke up in a classroom in the island’s school. Unnerved by the presence of Shogo Kawada and Kazuo Kiriyama, Tadakatsu rushed over to the window to watch a helicopter land in front of the school. Tadakatsu was shocked to see that Kitano had returned. When Kitano asked the class if they knew the BR Act law, Tadakatsu kept quiet, obviously knowing the law, but afraid to say it aloud. Tadakatsu was horrified upon seeing Masao Hayashida's corpse. When Fumiyo Fujiyoshi was killed, Tadakatsu panicked and ran for the door trying to escape before running towards the back of the classroom when the soldiers began firing. When Yoshitoki Kuninobu's collar got activated, Tadakatsu ran around the room trying to evade him.
When Tadakatsu's name was called, he grabbed he school bag and ran towards the front of the room; he caught his supply bag and ran out of the school.
During the Program[]
Sometime before noon, Tadakatsu manages to meet up with Yuichiro and later they run into Mitsuko Souma. It is unknown what exactly happened between the three although it could be assumed that Mitsuko seduced the two boys and then killed them as they are both naked while she's seen getting dressed.
Etymology[]
- The name Tadakatsu means "loyalty" (忠) (tada), and "strong" (勝) (katsu)
- Tadakatsu's surname Hatagami means "banner, standard" (旗) (hata), and "above" (上) (gami)
